WRTA 2008
Centennial Report
Since 1982, the Wainwright branch of ARTA has been a place where retired teachers met and continued their social and professional relationships. Former WRTA president, Washburn Laird, was also ARTA president in 1991, 1992.
This year we have about 30 members who continue to meet at the Grace United Church hall four times a year for meetings, where they listen to guest speakers, and enjoy a delicious dinner put on by the UCW.
For the Christmas meeting all bring food items for the local food bank and a wrapped gift for a child for the Kinsmen Wish program.
On the first day of school we hold a To Hell With the Bell Breakfast, free of charge to any retired teachers in the area, be they WRTA members or not.
Twice a year we serve lunch at the local Farmers’ Market. Teachers donate soup, sandwiches and pies to sell to vendors and patrons, as well as coffee and tea. Monies raised help with stamps, internet fees and donations to local libraries in memory of deceased WRTA members.
Executive for the 2008 term include Erika Foley – president, Allan Ford – treasurer, and Eva Ho – secretary. Branch Pension representative is Allan Ford, while Benefits representative is Erika Foley.
Wainwright is now 100 years old, and we hope that one day WRTA can also celebrate this milestone in their history.
