FABYAN SCHOOL DISTRICT No.4139
- The Fabyan School was built in 1924 on the NE ¼ of Section 17,
- Township 45, Range 7, W4. This was CPR land. The school was situated
- just north of the railroad tracks.
- The first teacher was Miss C.M. Martin, with a salary of $900 a year.
- Walter Adams was the secretary-treasurer. Twenty-three pupils attended
- that year; Mildred Marchand, Ernest Marchand, Carmen Davidson, Mary Ann
- Batch, Edward Cartier, Claire Girard, Leo Briault, Ernest Briault, Esther
- King, Ralph King, Florence Girard, Evelyn Davidson, Clara Cartier, Trafflie
- Marchand, Jerry Marchand, Paul Girard, Elmer Gano, Thelma Davidson,
- Raymond Cartier, Armand Briault, Cecil W. Worthington and Gladys
- Cartier.
- Until this school was opened, some of the children attended school at Battle
- Heights which had opened in 1914.
- Later teachers included Mabel Geary and George Taylor. Walter Adams was
- on the local school board from the time the school was built until it
- closed.
- High school pupils were bussed to Wainwright in the late forties. The last
- teacher at Fabyan was Mrs. Jack Cartier. Later, the school was used as a
- community center and finally was remodelled into a family dwelling.
