Little Schools in the Parkland

BATTLE CREEK SCHOOL DISTRICT No.2899

  1. Battle Creek School District #2899 was organized in 1912. The school
  2. was built in 1913 by Mr. L. Turner assisted by Hans Sorenson. It was
  3. located on Sheepskin Flats, on the SE ¼ 15-47-5 W4.

  5. The first school board members were Mr. Jim Templeton and Mr. Ed
  6. Monohan.

  8. Pupils the first day of school were the Dulcie children, Harry and Bird
  9. Myer; the Lake; Buchanan and Turner children.

  11. Some of the teachers were Mr. G. Ledieu, Mrs. Stan Valleau, Mrs. Mac Tondu,
  12. Mr. Gib Creach, Mr. L. Malcolm, Mrs. Hicox and Kay Majurg. The last two
  13. teachers were Lois Darkess and Elsie Templeton.

  15. Pupils for the 1927-38 term were: Kathleen and Grace Bear; Mollie, Betty
  16. and Bob Roberts; Minn, Willie and Bob Wilkinson. In 1932 there were about
  17. 30 students but this dwindled to two when the school closed in 1949.

  19. This School, like other country schools, was the centre of social life
  20. in the community.

  22. In 1961, Battle Creek School was moved from its location of 50 years and
  23. became the home of Mrs. Anna Rasmussen and son Jimmy.
