Little Schools in the Parkland

HEATH SCHOOL DISTRICT No.2464

  1. The first school board of Heath School District was elected June 20, 1911
  2. with R. Haynes as chairman, George Hunt as Sec-Treas. And trustee J.A.
  3. Messier. Several sites for the school were discussed, finally the SW ¼
  4. 23-44-5 W4 on Sid Bouck’s homestead was agreed upon since it was in the
  5. centre of the district.

  7. Tenders for the building were received from Otterholm & Withnell for
  8. $1790, P.M. Christensen for $1127, and F. Bailey for $1075. Christensen
  9. received the contract.

  11. Miss Perrin was engaged to teach at a salary of $65 per month.
  12. School opened March 15, 1912. Some of the first pupils were Georgeanna,
  13. May, Alda and Avila Messier; Joe Touchette; Edmond Grenier; Arthur, Alex
  14. and Juliette Sabourin; Sybil and Phyllis McLeod; Roch Cartier; Esther and
  15. Rita Cummings.

  17. Many of the teachers were: Miss Perrin, Miss C. Cummings, Mr. Lorne Goode
  18. (later Superintendent of Schools), Morley Young (who became a doctor), Mr.
  19. L. Boucher, Bessie Borden, Edna Wallace, Mr. Frank Beattie, Miss Caldwell,
  20. Cecil Ward (later a dentist), Mr. Runciman, Mr. Oliver McIntyre, Nina Young,
  21. Luke Killoran, Velma Brunner.

  23. Heath School Pupils in 1913 included: Frank Svetnicka, Antoine (Tony Chartier), Alex Sabourin, Jeanette
  24. Sabourin, Margaret LaRocque, Agnes Duroche, Delphine LaRocque, Arthur
  25. Sabourin, Vernon Cummings, Ernest LaRocque, Juliette Sabourin,
  26. Dominique Chartier, Sybil McLeod, Lucy LaRocque, Phyllis McLeod and
  27. Gerard Chartier. The teacher that year was Miss Caldwell.
