GRANGEDALE SCHOOL DISTRICT No.3142
- Grangedale School was built in 1915 on the NE ¼ of 11-45-5 W4. It was
- named after Mr. R. Grange who homesteaded the SE ¼ 14-45-5 W4. The
- school was thirty feet by twenty-two feet with wood siding on the
- outside, a coal shed, two outside toilets and a barn large enough for about
- eight horses.
- Some trustees were: Louis Hedlund, Mr. L.E. Roy, Mr. George Bond, Mr. C.
- Bleasdale and Harry Holdsworth.
- Several teachers gave long service to the district. These included Mr. F.
- Lane – eight years, Miss M. Knapp – three years, Miss M. Watson – five
- years.
- In 1936, a new balcony and steps were added to the building. The work
- was done by A. Chartier for $45. In 1937 the school was stuccoed and a
- new hardwood floor laid.
- Grangedale joined the Wainwright School Division in 1938-39.
- Periodically, the school was closed due to lack of pupils. During the
- years, grades nine and ten pupils from Mascot and Heath districts
- attended, with these districts paying tuition to Grangedale.
- The school finally closed for good in 1951 and the building was sold to the
- community as a centre. When this venture also petered out, it was sold in
- 1960 and moved to the NE ¼ 4-45-3 W4 as a residence.
