Lewisville School District No. 3041
Lewisville School was built by Henderson Brothers in 1914 on the NW ¼
7-44-8 W4, about 12 miles south east of Irma. In the winter of 1919-
1920 the school was moved two miles north and east to a site on the SW
¼ 20-44-8 to be near to the populated area of the district. The moving
job was done by the local men using 24 horses for power. About this time
a bridge was built over the Battle River near the new school site.
The school was named for the Lewis family, who provided five pupils for the small enrollment. Other names on the register were: Nutt, Reber, Hutchinson, Armstrong, Szoke, Sanders, Hill, Gower, Dawson, Voros, Bishop, Kravenchuk. After 1922 more names were added to the register, namely: Rubenok, Skogg, Saville, Foreman, Pasztor, Cotton, Johnston and Krozier. The last enrollments included sons and daughters of these same families.
The trustees were: Jack Armstrong as secretary-treasurer, Ollie Lewis, Claude Lewis, William Hutchinson, W.T. Hill, T. Sanders, George Rubenok, Henry Alm, E. Scogg, Frank Reber, Cliff Saville and James Armstrong.
The first teacher was Miss Anderson followed by Miss May Read, Jean Stevens, Alice Hyde, James McLean, J.O. Rudy and Ina Askin. In 1920, the teacher was Ruby Foss followed by Miss Harris, Miss Daisy Johnson and in 1923 Miss Ethel Milburn. Then came Mildred Allen, Margaret Miles, Lucy Lett, Elma Solberg, Etta Woods, Miss Hall, Miss Gladys Siebrasse who taught for several years, followed by Max Saville. The last teacher was Miss Ethel Tate in 1940-41.
In 1941 the school was closed after 27 years of usefulness. Students were bussed to nearby towns. In 1950, the school was moved to Wainwright to become part of the School Division Office.
Much of the land of the Lewisville district became part of the land taken over by the Department of National Defense so there is no one living there today.
