 Ascot School District No. 2952

Ascot SD # 2952 - 1913 1945 The following information was taken from “Buffalo Trails and Tales.” With the approval of the Department of Education in 1913 a school district was formed and the site chosen was the NE ¼ 5-44-6 W4. This site was four miles south of Wainwright on the Airport Road. Once the site was approved some $1800 was borrowed to build the school and outhouses, drill a well, and fence the property. The school district comprising some sixteen sections was called Ascot after the Ascot Race Track of England and was numbered 2952.

The first trustees were Harry Clipston, John Alexander, Frank Ebbern and Angus McQuaker.

The first teacher was a Miss Rhoda Russell, daughter of the first Presbyterian Minister in Wainwright. Some other teachers were Addie Culley, Miss Cain, Dr. Aykroyd, Miss Schaffer, Fred Aykroyd, Miss McCarthy (1928), Miss Ethel Smith (married Art Siddens), Miss Poulson, Agnes Nickolson (taught 7 years without missing a day), Josephine Middlemas, Marie (Perkins) Valleau (Sept – Dec 1941) and Ethel Luciow.

In 1928, Inspector W.H. Edwards became an official trustee. The school district was absorbed by the Wainwright School Division and the children of the district were bussed to Wainwright.

In 1952, Jim Robinson bought the school building and moved it to Wainwright. Now it is the home of Mary Goodwin and is situated on the 4th Avenue and 9th Street.

Some of the early residents of the district whose children attended school at Ascot were: McQuakers, Alexanders, Haywoods, Lindseths.

Pupils included:
1919 – Amy, Robert and Alex Alexander; Wallace Wheaton; Alex and Andy Hutchinson.
In following years some of the pupils were *Olive Alexander and later his sons Henry and Glen and *Bob, Elsie and Lily Haywood; Jack, Margaret and Mary McQuaker, Gertrude, *Mary, Grace, Ella, Pat, *Ruth, and Joe Ebbern; Phyllis and *John Huxley; Bob, Freddie and Jimmy Wilson; Agnes and Mable Rinas; Bernice and Billy Moore; Vivian Tovel; Helen, Bertha, and Ernest Lindseth; Harold McCarthy; *Andy, Stella, Josephine, *Betty and Victor Musak; Margaret, Tom, *Albert and Russell Rodgers; Morice and Donald Luciow.
