Little Schools in the Parkland

 St. Aubins School

St. Aubins - 1930 1968 Although St. Aubins was a Separate School, its involvement in the education of the children of the Wainwright School Division must not be overlooked.

The school was needed due to the large population of Roman Catholics in the community. In 1933, the Sisters of the Holy Cross came to teach and also provided music lessons for all who wanted to take advantage of the opportunity.

The high school students attended Chauvin School and for a number of years some of the classes were combined when the enrollment was too high at Chauvin School. Darlene Skinner, who at present teaches at Dr. Folkins, was one who taught there. Emmy Nysetvold was also a teacher the first year. In 1968 St. Aubins was closed and the children went to Dr. Folkins School. When part of this school burned in 1978 the elementary students once again filled the classrooms of St. Aubins. Teachers, students and parents helped to make this a profitable year in spite of the inconveniences imposed on them. The resource-room teacher had a very small supply room where she managed to keep order in spite of the staff interrupting to get needed material.

Today, the building houses the local museum.
